MUMBAI: It is almost three years since British singer Adele released her Grammy award winning album '21' and it is still breaking records. According to reports from Nilsen SoundScan, the album is the first ever to surpass three million copies in digital sales.
There is no doubt that the milestone is noteworthy, however, it has been inevitable considering it sold rather well in 2013; two years since its release. '21' became the 21st bestselling album last year and was also the bestselling album in 2011 and 2012. In the U.S alone, it sold more than ten million copies and within 92 weeks it reached the diamond status.
Last month, e-commerce site- Amazon released its list of bestsellers, on which '21' was ranked fourth on bestselling MP3 albums of all time and was one of the top selling CDs.
Since the surgery on her vocals chords in 2011, the 25 year old singer- songwriter has been relatively quiet on the music front. However, in 2012 she wrote and recorded the theme track for the James Bond movie 'Skyfall'. The track, also titled 'Skyfall', won the singer a Golden Globe award and an Oscar award for Best Original Song.
The 'Someone Like You' singer is reportedly working on a new album, which could most likely be released this year.
