CeeLo Green confirms he is leaving 'The Voice'
Hip-hop singer CeeLo Green revealed yesterday that he will not be returning as a coach on NBC's 'The Voice'. In an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres show, the 'Forget You' singer said, “I'm not coming back at all.” Green told the surprised host that he did not want to wear-out his welcome, adding that he did not really plan on making the announcement.
However, Green's departure from the show does not mean the end of his relationship with NBC. “I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year,” he added, while admitting he will miss 'The Voice'.
In a statement, Paul Telegdy, NBC president of alternative and late night programming said, "Cee Lo Green has been an instrumental part of the success of 'The Voice,' and we deeply appreciate all his contributions. We're looking forward to working with him on other upcoming projects that will tap into both his musical and entertainment expertise."
Green is one of the four original coaches on 'The Voice', along with other singers Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. He appeared in the first three seasons and in the fifth season of the show. While there is no confirmation on who will be taking his place in the red chair, this season will welcome back two previous coaches- Usher and Shakira, of which one will replace Aguilera, who is taking a break to work on other projects.
Season six of 'The Voice' beings from Monday, 24 February.
Meanwhile, CeeLo Green will be joining Lionel Ritchie, with whom he appeared on The Ellen Show, on an upcoming tour titled 'All the Hits All Night Long' this summer.
