FM stations pay tribute to the 60 years of India`s Independence

MUMBAI: FM radio stations are celebrating 60 years of Independence with special programming across the country.

On the occasion, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM has organised non-stop specials Khush Rehne Ki Azaadi starting from 13 August to 15 August.

On 15 August, Radio Mirchi will have Nikal Padi Azaadi where the station will promote India`s splendour and beauty. Some of the Mirchi listeners will be given a chance to travel to exotic places in and around Mumbai with their spouse. Radio Mirchi will arrange for a fleet of cars stocked with food, a map, a compass, and details of remote and interesting picnic spots around the city. There will be updates from Mirchi RJs throughout the day on the couples` progress as they travel to these places.

In the Apna Hai Yaar, Mirchi will focus at what is right and good with India. The station will air bytes and interviews of celebrities including listeners from all walks of life who will talk about the things they love about India.

Radio Mirchi is also orgainisng a `Freedom` based theme party at NM College on 15 August. Besides Mirchi will organise a quiz contest, Sawal Saat Saal Ka, along with special performances by Kailash Kher, Taufiq Qureshi, Anand Raj Anand and Abhijeet Sawant on `Club Mirchi` with Jeeturaaj.

Radio Mirchi Bangalore in association with Flower Xpress have paid tribute to the Independence Day and Taj Mahal by building a structure with fragrant roses.

The 10 ft high, 18 ft wide Mirchi Taj is made made out of 60, 000 to 70, 000 roses and is decorated completely with saffron, white and green colours.

Besides Radio Mirchi Bangalore , has started a campaign Nimma Maneli Lalbagh where they will be giving away pots plants and seeds sponsored by Indo American Hybrid Seeds.

Radio City 91.1 FM will play songs for 60 minutes back to back at 9 am, 12 noon, 4 pm and 8 pm on 15 August across nine cities Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Vadodara.

Radio City Hyderabad in association with an NGO Bhumi will organise a 24-hour construction activity bringing down a dilapidated school building and laying foundations for 18 new classrooms at Rasoolpura Government High School.

Radio City Bangalore is hosting a fun filled `5-a-side` hockey match at the Karnataka State Hockey Association Stadium on 15 August. Radio City, Lucknow is running a week long of festivities revolving around the 5 Fundamental Rights of our Constitution with an element of fun. Radio City national head marketing Rana Barua said, "We at Radio City have planned an eclectic mix of interactive offerings to celebrate 60 years of Indian Independence with our listeners. The idea was to connect with people on a much larger humanitarian level - not only as innovative infotainers but also as a conscientious organisation sensitised to the needs of the society we live in. Keeping up to the spirit of the day, we at Radio City extend our choicest greetings to all this Independence Day!"

In the Mumbai station of Big 92.7 FM, RJs will celebrate the day around the theme `Father of the Nation` in the breakfast show Big Chai. Big RJs Rohit and Sujata will have a skit on the show Chal Kalti Maar about freedom from `torture` and `suppression from men`. Big Googly with Shekhar Suman and RJ Shalini will run contests around `travel free` where they will call train and bus commuters and ask them what would they like the trains, buses, rickshaws and taxis to be free of. Love Main Twist with RJ Kalindi will feature topics like `freedom` from parents, jealousy, possessiveness, abusive relationships.

Big FM Bangalore will have live shows for 60 mins in line with `60 years of Indian independence` hosted by Kannada film actors.

Jawaharlal Nehru`s the `tryst with destiny` speech will be put on air on the midnight of 14 August in 94.3 Radio One. In BBC Ek Mulaqat, Sanjeev Srivastav will talk to Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Zaheer Khan.

In association with BBC, Radio One will have a retrospective look at the 60 years of Bollywood. Through a special show, Radio One will take the listeners through a journey from station to station with city updates on the best radio station in the country by special BBC correspondents.

As a part of the celebration 91.9 Indigo Goa will interview freedom fighter Madhukar Mordekar who fought in the 1947 struggle while the Bangalore station will interview young politician Milind Deora.

To commemorate the diamond jubilee year, Fever 104 FM is giving out 60 diamonds to its listeners.

Red FM is celebrating the day by playing the station`s song called Prayas all through out the day to criticisesthe law breakers of the land.
