Shalmali Kholgade turns scriptwriter, producer for musical for US tour
MUMBAI: Singer Shalmali Kholgade seems to be all geared up for her month long 9-city US tour which will begin on 22 March. However, this tour promises to be an audio-visual extravaganza as compared to her tours across Mauritius, Kenya, South Africa, Dubai, Bahrain and Canada.
The 'Lat Lag Gayi' singer has produced the show herself, based on a script that she has written. "My dream is Broadway and doing a Broadway-like musical would be the pinnacle of my career, but with Hindi songs, of course. I have written my own script and made my own show. It will be a little dancing and acting, and a lot of singing. This would be my tiny little step towards that dream. This one is produced by me. Through this first attempt, I wanted to see what goes into making a production of this kind and do it myself, so that next time when I have someone on board to do the production for me, I will know what to be persistent about." The show will be a 75-minute long musical intended to give concert-goers a complete Bollywood experience.
The tour is promoted by Balaji Entertainment. "When Bollywood music, theatre and dance come together on one common stage, one thing is for sure...magic will be created!" said Shalmali, who will be spearheading this creation.
The 'Pareshan' singer is working with music composer Milind Joshi for her independent Marathi album. She is also in talks with a few music producers for a Punjabi album. But she clarifies that the songwriting will not be hers.
Kholgade confirmed that she has sung for two Marathi Films, Sachin Kundalkar's 'Happy Journey' and Nikhil Mahajan's 'Baji'. The artiste seems to have taken a liking to Baji's music composer Karan Kulkarni's work. "I sang for the film 'Peddlers' with Karan Kulkarni. It went to a lot of international film festivals, including the Cannes. Unfortunately it was not released. He is one music director that I am absolutely in love with. The way he makes music is different from any other composer I have worked with. I hope to work with him again soon," says Kholgade. Kulkarni is known for his music in the film 'Shahid'.
