Bathroom singers of all ages flock to Filmy
MUMBAI: If the USP of the music talent hunts across TV has been young participants, Filmy`s new show, Bathroom Singer, aims to change the equation, Drastically. The channel, that did away with the age barrier while calling for registrations for its forthcoming talent hunt Bathroom Singer, says it has shortlisted even 70 year olds from the just concluded ground auditions. Phone lines were opened up three weeks ago, and auditions in four cities - Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai wound up this week.
The auditions garnered over two lakh registrations in the space of two and a half weeks, excluding the five thousand odd applicants who turned up for on the spot registrations, claims the channel. "Our oldest participant was an 87 year old," says Filmy`s business head Shailesh Kapoor.
The difference between Bathroom Singer and the crop of similar shows on other shows will also be that although there will be a lot of emotions and drama, the levels of stress will be decidedly low. In keeping with the image of the channel, the show will also sport a `filmi` angle, with the rounds, themes and even costumes having a `filmi connect`, says Kapoor.
Interestingly, in keeping with the character of the show, the participants did not have to face a jury while auditioning...they had the comfort of a closed off cubicle that resembled a bathroom to exercise their vocal chords in.
The show, that kicks off on 26 August 2007, will see 50 of the shortlisted participants slugging it out in the 18 week format that the channel has charted. While the participants will come from a diverse demographic, Kapoor is confident that the format of the show itself will be entertaining to all age groups.
