Twitter pulls down its #Music App, service to be deactivated by 18 April

MUMBAI: Only a year after its launch, Twitter will be taking down its music application from the App store as it has failed to gain popularity. The news came on Friday, when the company revealed that in addition to removing the app from the store, it will also deactivate the offering for current users on 18 April 2014.
A post on Twitter Music's official page read, "Later this afternoon, we will be removing Twitter #music from the App Store. If you have the app, it will continue to work until April 18." The app was available only for desktop and iPhone users, and was aimed at creating conversations around music among Twitter users, so as to find a new way to discover music. Unfortunately, with several music apps already in the market, Twitter Music failed to make an impact.
Rumours of Twitter pulling down the app first surfaced in October of last year. There were also reports stating that the site had stopped developing the app in the past months. Although the app has been discontinued, Twitter stated that it will continue towards helping users find new music. A following post said, "We continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter."
Last month, Twitter announced its new partnership with 300 Entertainment, a music industry firm, with which it will share music data and analytics. At the time of the revelation, Twitter's head of music stated that music is the service's "largest topic of conversation."
