Lead actors of the movie ‘2 States’, Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, are both on cloud nine after their respective films- ‘Highway’ and ‘Gunday’ rocked the box office. The duo has been cast together in the movie ‘2 States’, which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book ‘2 States’. The music of the film is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL). The album comprises six songs. Here’s Radioandmusic’s review of the tracks.

Offo

“The song is about love slowly infiltrating into an individual’s space and creating a confused state of mind,” said Amitabh Bhattacharya, lyricist and singer. The track is extremely peppy; particularly the use of guitars in the song gives it a prom night feeling. The voices of the Lootera Singer, Amitabh Bhattacharya and spunky Aditi Singh Sharma, makes the song even more zestful.

Locha-E-Ulfat

“The song is more or less similar to ‘Offo’. In this song the guy expresses that his life was fine before the girl’s appearance, but after she has stepped in, his world has gone upside down,” explained Bhattacharya. The song is not an outstanding number but is not bad either. Beeny Dayal as always rocks when it comes to vocals.

Mast Magan

The song Mast Magan is a standard love song with meaningful lyrics and a soulful sound. Arijit Singh and Chinmayi Sripada do not disappoint you with their vocals. Not an outstanding number though.

Iski Uski

The song reminds you of ‘Kukkad’, from the movie ‘Student of the Year’. This track boosts about Punjabis who are cool and are ready for celebrations always. The vocals are rendered by Shahid Mallya and Akriti Kakkar.

Chaandaniya

The semi Sufi number is probably one of the better tracks on the album. The voices of Mohan Kanan and Yashita Sharmabring are a fresh breath of air. Add to the mix Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics and you get a beautiful track.

Hulla Re

Amitabh Bhattacharya rightly describes ‘Hulla Re’ as a celebration song. The song is a high energy number. Shankar and Siddharth Mahadevan team up for this track and the Punjabi song with a ‘Dhol Bajda’ mood, stage and setting, it is essentially a ‘shaadi-byaah’ number.

Over all the songs are not outstanding but do not really disappoint. However, you cannot compare the music to SEL’s previous films like ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ and ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’.
