Vir Das sings 'Say Nah' for elections 2014

MUMBAI: Like many, actor-singer Vir Das and his comedy rock band Alien Chutney, are hoping to inspire people this election with a newly released election track titled 'Say Nah'. The funny track takes a dig at Indian politicians, their party and the media.

The video of the track 'Say Nah' was released on YouTube on 2 April. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Vir Das said, "I wrote the song four months ago. I was sitting back and thinking that the election is nearing. As a democratic citizen I am aware that I have to vote but I had no clue who I should vote for, like many other citizens."

He further added, "I also feel that we are in an atmosphere that if we support one party or mock one party that would irk a lot of people. If you supported Modi then Rahul Gandhi followers will make noise and if you supported Rahul Gandhi then Modi supporters will get angry." Das pointed out, "I felt that it was getting heated up every time I cracked a joke and they will put hate messages on my timeline or twitter account. So I thought everybody needs to lighten up and that is what the song is all about. So I decided to have a song where we can make fun of everybody."

Speaking about the video which was shot last month, Das said, "The video turned out really well. I did not expect the response to be so positive. When I upload a video I do not want it to become viral. It is more about music but it kind of happened."

He has sent the video to the MTV team and is hoping that the video will be played on MTV Indies soon. "I am hoping that a few music channels that play English content will be courageous enough to play it. I would be disappointing if music channels do not pick this track up," added Das.
