MUMBAI: The Jazz Utsav 2008 which was supposed to start from Friday evening at the Bandra Ampitheatre in Mumbai has been cancelled until further updates.

According to co organiser Bluefrog's official website http://www.bluefrog.co.in/, the three day annual festival that was to have featured several prominent bands, including international ones, will now be held at a later date. This is possibly the first fallout on the cultural landscape of the city, as an aftermath of the terror attacks in Mumbai.

A question mark also hangs over the fate of the Jethro Tull-Anoushka Shankar concert to be held on Saturday in Mumbai. The Kolkata concert on 27 November, played to a packed house, it is learnt.

Jazz India was founded in 1975 with an inaugural concert by Karin Krog. It was Soli Sorabjee who organised the first Jazz Yatra with a few jazz music lovers – not many know that Sorabjee started a jazz band called �Capital Jazz' in Mumbai during the same time. Later the Jazz Yatra continued on a bi-annual basis till 2000, thereafter it was run annually till 2004.

Considered to be the first Jazz festival in Asia, �Jazz Yatra' is now known as �Jazz Utsav' – one of the oldest and longest running jazz festivals outside America. This year Jazz Utsav will see few of world's best Jazz artistes performing over a period of three days.

The Jazz Utsav 2008 was to have been presented by Dewar in collaboration with Airtel, Britannia, Furtados, HDCF, HSBC Bank, UNICHEM, Voltas and organized by Blue Frog and Capital Jazz.

Meanwhile, sources suggest that the organizers of the Anoushka Shankar and Jethro Tull concerts are also reconsidering about going ahead with the duo's concert scheduled to happen tomorrow at Shanmukhananda, Mumbai due to security reasons.
