When composers like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash-Paresh-Naresh, Bappi Lahiri-Bappa Lahiri and Bohemia create music for one album, expectations are high, if mixed. But in Chandni Chowk to China, the music takes some time to seep in. Since most music in Bollywood today is made according to script, music directors have little choice. At times, the concept of having multiple composers works because the interpretation of emotions of each composer differs. Here's the low down on what the CC2C end result looks like.
To start with, the fun track CCTC is the probable show-stopper for the film. The lyrics of suggesting Akshay Kumar as the undisputable king – not just reel but also 'real' are affable. As a singer, Akki has pulled it off pretty well. To add, we haven't forgotten his earlier self appeasing number like 'hum hain seedhe saadhe Akshay', have we?
'Chak Lein De' by Kailash-Paresh-Naresh is galavanising, also the subtle lyrics come out strong – thanks to Kailash Kher's poetic genius. 'Chak Lein De' is a situational number expected to make its presence felt at multiple junctures in the narrative. Kailash Kher once again delivers something which is certainly not archetypecal Bollywood!
Chandni Chowk to China by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a mixture of varied genres - Indian, Western and Oriental. Lyricist Rajat Arora doesn't miss the fun quotient while singer Neeraj Sridhar and Anushka are impressive; it's undoubtedly Shankar Mahadevan who takes the ham!
'S.I.D.H.U. by Kailash-Paresh-Naresh might take a while to settle down. It's a song about a young man (Akshay Kumar) called Sidhu who is a simpleton and is loved by all. The melody may not seem organic but the word flow by Kailash Kher is!
There is not much fun in 'India Se Aaya Tera Dost' inspired by Bappi's original 'Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost'. The lyrics have been tweaked a little by Rajat Arora and Shaily Shailender. The arrangements are peppy but that really doesn't help the Bappi -Bappa Lahiri duo. Will the picturisation make any difference here? Let's see. On second thoughts, one can't help wondering, why where two lyricists used here anyway?
'Tere Naina' by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy in one word is 'soothing'. Shreya Ghoshal's voice with Shankar Mahadevan sounds magical. One track which will be surely loved by SEL followers.
Just like the film, the music of Chandni Chowk to China is commercial and saleable. With multiple composers joining hands to make up this album, Chandni Chowk to China is likely to top charts for the weeks to come.
