Taylor Swift cancels sold-out Bangkok concert

MUMBAI: Country pop singer Taylor Swift has called off her upcoming concert in Thailand because of the ongoing political situation. The show, which was already sold-out, was scheduled to take place at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani on 9 June and is part of her Red Tour 2014.

On Tuesday, BEC-Tero, the concert promoter announced that the concert would be cancelled "due to recent events in Thailand". Although they did not elaborate, the company did say it was a "difficult decision for all parties."

The 23 year old singer/songwriter was undoubtedly unhappy about the show’s cancellation and took to Twitter to apologise to her fans. "I'm sending my love to the fans in Thailand. I'm so sad about the concert being cancelled," she said in a post after the news was broken.

Swift’s cancelled concert was part of her Asian tour which was set to begin in Jakarta, Indonesia on 4 June, after which it would go to Manila, Philippines on 6 June, Bangkok, Thailand on 9 June, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 11 June and Singapore on 12 June.

Ticketholders can avail of refunds for the concert tickets, which were priced between 2000 to 6500 baht, until Thursday, 30 June.

In the last few months, a number of other performers have also postponed or cancelled their appearances in Thailand due to political protests and the coup that was carried out last Thursday. Currently, the country is under military rule and has a night time curfew.
