NEW DELHI: Surat Misra, who retired from Doordarshan in September 2008, has been appointed Consultant for Media and Public Relations in All India Radio. During her tenure with Doordarshan, she looked after its publicity.
Misra, a Sociologist and Media Analyst, was former Deputy Director (PR) & Chief Protocol Officer in the Directorate General of Doordarshan.
Having vast experience in Media/Press/Advertising & Publicity/Public Relations and Protocol, she will handle Social Media & Public Relations.
Though she had qualified in Sociology with Criminology, Misra was a member of General Central Service Group ‘A’ and commenced her career in the Home Ministry in Social Research, Socio Criminogenic Police Research & Media Research.
She also worked in Social Advertising, Public Relations / Corporate Communications, and International Relations.
In DD, she commenced her work as Audience Research Officer (PR) from 1985 to 1997 after which she was given charge of public relations.
She also made several public service films on different subjects. She also did some work on introduction of sex education for children with the National Council for Research and Training.
Earlier, she had done research and made study reports on subjects like Criminality Amongst Women in India; Incidence of Suicides in Delhi, Enforcement of Untouchability (Offences) Act 1955; Dowry Deaths; and many other subjects.
She was Senior Investigator, Backward Classes Development Division of the Home Ministry from 1972 to 1975 and prior to that Director of Census Operations.
