MUMBAI: The Beatsteaks, one of Germany's most successful punkrock bands of the last years and the new Number One in the charts, entrust their publishing interests to BMG Germany. They have signed a worldwide exclusive songwriter agreement in a co-publishing deal between Atze & Keule Musik, the co-publishing company of their managers Torsten Dohm and Eric Landmann, and BMG Rights Management.
Parallel to their signing with BMG, the Beatsteaks entered the official German album charts at Number One this week, after releasing their same-titled seventh studio album via Warner Music Group in the week before. With their single releases ‘Gentleman Of The Year' they already delivered a first musical taste of their new record.
The Berlin-based alternative/punkrock band consisting of Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß (vocals), Bernd Kurtzke (guitar), Peter Baumann (guitar), Thomas Götz (drums) and Torsten Scholz (bass) last reached Number One off the German charts with their album Boombox (2011). In the previous years, the band also placed themselves successfully with Limbo Messiah (2007) and the Live-DVDs Kanonen auf Spatzen (2008) and Muffensausen(2013) in the Top Five.
The band was discovered back in 1996: Only a few months after their formation, the Beatsteaks played as winners of the Berlin music competition Battle of the Bands as an opening act of the legendary Sex Pistols. After first successes with 48/49 (1997), Launched (1999) and Living Targets (2002), they made the breakthrough with their fourth studio album Smack Smash, which reached number 11 of the German charts in spring 2004. In the same year, the band was honored with the MTV Europe Music Award as Best German Act – ahead of Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte and Rammstein.
Beatsteaks lead singer Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß: "We are happy to have found a competent creative partner with BMG Rights Management, who will be exploiting our music. Apart from a top team, the closeness to the headquarter in Berlin also speaks for BMG."
Maik Pallasch, Managing Director BMG GSA: "To work with a by now legendary band like the Beatsteaks is definitively something special. We are proud of the success of their latest record and are looking forward to be working with them in the future."
