Radio City's RJ Yuvi promotes renowned and budding Punjabi artistes through his show

MUMBAI: After a break of five years, RJ Yuvi is back to radio. This time the radio stint is with Radio City's Delhi station where he would be targeting the Punjabi audiences based in the city and the people who enjoy Punjabi music.

The show 'City da Gabru' will be hosted by RJ Yuvi, every Monday to Friday between 2-5pm and on Saturday between 2-6 pm.

RJ Yuvi who started his radio career with Big FM, said, "Delhi is a bigger market as compared to other places I have worked previously. This will be a big challenge." His previous stints include television projects like 'Bachelorette India', 'Ticket to Bollywood' and 'Zee Cine Stars Ki Khoj'. He also worked as an RJ trainer in Chandigarh.

He believes that "radio was not really challenging, as he knew things the moment he join radio."

By December, he plans to introduce few characters on the show. Till then, he will be entertaining the listeners through segments like 'Hazari' and 'Punjupedia'. In the first segment, he plays games and has interesting dialogues on-air. In the second segment 'Punjupedia', he will pick up Punjabi slangs or proverbs and make people explain it in a simple way.

'City da Gabru' along with Punjabi humour will also have Punjabi music regardless of the popularity. "There is a huge presence of Punjabi music in Bollywood songs so you can imagine the way Punjabi music is growing. It is very important to bring more Punjabi music on radio for the listeners we are catering to."

He further added, "It is also important to have a good sense of Punjabi music when there is some much happening in that space. There are many regional singers who are reaching new levels with their music." He hopes to reach out to music lovers with songs that go beyond Daler Mehndi and Yo Yo Honey Singh. "Artistes like Jazzy B, Diljit Dosanjh, and Hardy Sandhu put in a lot of efforts in their lyrics so I believe that they should get more limelight. We would represent those artistes who are working hard on the lyrics and music they do," expressed Yuvi.

Every Saturday, the show will air songs of budding artistes who do not get enough opportunities to promote themselves.

Chandigarh born Yuvi started his journey in 2005 and left radio in 2009 to pursue his studies in Journalism. After which, he took-up various voice –over projects and TV shows, before finally landing in front of radio. As an MC, he has done 300-400 shows in various regions in and around Chandigarh.
