BMG Chrysalis US acquired Vagrant Records

MUMBAI: Music rights Management Company BMG Chrysalis US acquires Los Angeles based Indie rock label Vagrant Records. This will further strengthen BMG Chrysalis US’s North American new recordings business.

North America BMG Chrysalis marketing and creative president Laurent Hubert said, "The acquisition of Vagrant Records is another milestone for BMG in the US as we build scale and capabilities in the recordings business just as we have in music publishing. "

The deal will allow BMG to acquire the catalogue of Vagrant Records and all the future recordings. The records co-founder Jon Cohen will now become EVP recorded music at BMG Chrysalis US and will be responsible for Vagrant records. He will oversee the records released in the US through BMG.

Jon Cohen said, "It is impossible not to be impressed by what BMG has achieved in the US since it opened in the US just five short years ago. By putting service to artists at the centre of its offering, BMG is committed to offering a genuine alternative to traditional label deals. Together with the rest of the Vagrant team, I look forward to further growing BMG’s presence in the recordings business."

Since its inception in 1996, the records has signed artistes like The 1975, Eels, Bad Suns, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, PJ Harvey, School of Seven Bells, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Black Joe Lewis, Blitzen Trapper and Bombay Bicycle Club. Recent, releases under Vagrant are ‘The 1975’, ‘Post Tropical’ and ‘Brutal Romantic’.

In September, BMG Chrysalis UK has acquired an independent record label, Infectious Music.
