MUMBAI: BBC One, Radio 1 and Radio 2 are to unite for a live simultaneous broadcast in celebration of the best in popular music from across the BBC in the last 12 months.
Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton to host live simultaneous broadcast from Earls Court on Thursday 11 December 2014 on BBC One, Radio 1 and Radio 2 from 8-10 pm.
Jo Whiley and Nick Grimshaw to lead the build up in BBC Music Awards presents The Radio 1 and Radio 2 All Stars simultaneously live on both stations from 6-8 pm.
Zane Lowe and Sara Cox to wrap things up with live after party from BBC Music Award’s Earls Court HQ from 10-11 pm.
A star studded line up of UK and international artists will come together for the inaugural BBC Music Awards with a series of stunning musical performances from some of the biggest names in the business including One Direction, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit and Paloma Faith. Further guests will be announced shortly.
The main event will see Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton broadcast live from Earls Court across BBC One, Radio 1 and Radio 2 from 8 - 10 pm. The extravaganza will feature captivating live performances and surprising artist collaborations for a night which will review and celebrate the year in music.
During the evening, three awards will be presented. British Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year will be decided by a BBC Music panel as well as leading music journalists, with The Song of the Year Award being voted for by members of the public.
Jo Whiley, who will team up with Nick Grimshaw to lead the build up to the night, said, "It’s been a brilliant year for music in this country and we'll be celebrating and recognising the acts who have dazzled us with their music this year. We’ll be making history by bringing the nation together in a way that’s not been done before, uniting BBC One, Radio 1 and Radio 2 for the first time ever for some incredible live performances and collaborations from some amazing performers. We will also be celebrating and recognising those acts that have brightened up our lives this year with their fantastic music. It’s going to be a lot of fun."
Nick Grimshaw and Chris Evans will kick off things earlier in the day with the Song of the Year vote. Both Radio 1 and Radio 2 breakfast shows will announce the top 10 Songs of the Year shortlist for listeners to vote for their favourite track of 2014, with the winner being announced and crowned Song of the Year during the evening’s star-studded ceremony.
Continuing the build up from 4-6pm, Greg James will take his Radio 1 show down the road to Earls Court, broadcasting live to bring his listeners all the behind the scenes excitement and final preparations for the big production. He’ll be catching up with some of the stars performing, taking a peek at final rehearsals, as well as listening out for all the gossip, glamour and last minute nerves as the evening approaches. During his show Simon Mayo will hook up with Greg to bring Radio 2 listeners a sneaky preview of the night’s events before racing down to Earls Court to the join in the fun himself.
From 6-8pm, Jo Whiley and Nick Grimshaw will team up for the event’s first simulcast with BBC Music Awards presents The Radio 1 and Radio 2 All Stars live on both stations. The star-studded, access-all-areas preview of the main event will see Jo and Grimmy joined by Radio 1 presenters Alice Levine, Gemma Cairney, Zane Lowe, Greg James and Radio 2 presenters Sara Cox, Ken Bruce, Jamie Cullum and Simon Mayo. During the show, they’ll be hearing exclusive acoustic performances from some of the artists performing on the night as well as hanging out on the Red Carpet, poking into dressing rooms, chatting in the green room, hearing from some of the audience at Earls Court and meeting some of the BBC’s favourite famous faces.
The One Show (7 – 7.30 pm)will also be broadcasting live from Earls Court with all the action from the Red Carpet and behind the scenes build up to the big event.
Then after the main show ends at 10 pm, Zane Lowe and Sara Cox will wrap things up with the party after the party live from the Green Room at the BBC Music Award’s Earls Court HQ, simultaneously on Radio 1 and Radio 2 from 10-11 pm. Recapping the show with the artists involved, interviews with the winners and toasting the highlights of the night, Zane and Sara will wrap up the inaugural BBC Music Awards in celebratory style.
