Music channels and radio stations offer special programming on V-Day

MUMBAI: Love really is in the air, this Valentine’s Day with exciting and special programming on both, television and radio. While 9X Jalwa plans to take you back in time to dance with your loved one to the tunes of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, 9XO has got the hearts of the solitary ones on Valentine’s Day covered. Meanwhile, Vh1 wants you to express your love to your ‘bae’, irrespective of their gender.

Come Saturday, 9XO will be playing a ‘Love-O-Thon’ with songs complementing any relationship status. From crushing to committed, complicated to break up – whatever the status of your relationship, 9XO has an hour-long programming dedicated for every status. From 10 February to 14 February, 9XO will be playing five to six songs for categories of relationship statuses, and featuring music by John Legend, Sam Smith, Selena Gomez, Jason Mraz and many more.

9X Jalwa will be playing Valentine’s Day Special ‘Jalwa Superstar’ and ‘Forever Romance – Special 26’, with 26 romantic songs of the 90s and 2000s with special packaging, individually spread throughout the day on 13 and 14 February. 9X Jalwa is also playing ‘Jalwa Superstar Classics’ portraying ‘Forever Romantic Jodis of Bollywood’ viz., Amitabh-Rekha, Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz and Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh.

This Valentine’s Day, Vh1 simply wants to know who your ‘bae’ is; and it could be a guy or a girl and does not need to be someone of the opposite sex! This year, the international music channel wants you to send in your song dedication to your ‘bae’, and you can see your request feature on Vh1. All you have to do is post your ‘bae’s’ name and request for a video with the hashtag #Vh1BaelentinesDay either on Facebook or Twitter or even Instagram and watch it featured on the show. Vh1 has also got region specific music videos, one in Marathi and one in Haryanvi.

Even radio stations like Radio Mirchi and Radio City have something romantic for their listeners on the special day. Radio Mirchi will be airing real love stories of ordinary couples in a special segment called ‘Lifeu Isthene’ from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Valentine’s Day. Before that, Radio Mirchi will have celebrities talking about what they do to keep their love alive, and the many facets of their love lives in a segment called ‘Dil Kush’ which will air from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Radio Mirchi is also associated with the Salim-Sulieman live concert at the Windsong Music Fest happening in Delhi on Valentine’s Day.

Radio City will also have special programming for different cities. In Delhi, Radio City has partnered with Mohan Foundation in an effort to drive awareness about organ donation. In Mumbai, the radio station is hosting a contest titled, ‘TV ya Biwi,’ which will require girlfriends and wives across the city to nominate their better halves, who in-turn will have to make a tough choice out of watching cricket on TV or spending the day with their ‘Biwi’. The ones who choose TV will stand a chance to win LED TV’s while those who pick their wife will get to go on an all-expense paid romantic date. In Gujarat, Radio City will run another contest called ‘Cash ya Chutti’, through which listeners will stand a chance to either win a cash prize or an all-expense paid holiday, by simply giving out the correct sequence of songs played in that one hour to Radio City’s RJs from 9 a.m. onwards.

Whether you choose to be alone or with your loved one on 14 February, you can express your love through television or radio. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day.
