MUMBAI: Ashish Sachan, commonly known under his stage name- Hashback Hashish, will play as a part of the South by South West (SXSW) Music Showcase at The Iron Bear on 20 March. This marks Hashish’s second gig at the renowned festival. He had previously played an SXSW showcase in 2013.

Speaking on his performance the first time round, Hashish said, “When I went there to perform for the first time in 2013, I was completely blown away. I was there a day before it all started. I could not believe I was watching some of my all time favourite bands perform live.”

Hashish has also recently finished work on his third album ‘Brevity’. It follows his last album ‘Stoned’, which was released towards the end of last year. On his Soundcloud page, Hashish has only uploaded six out of the seven tracks from ‘Brevity’. The tracks are currently only available for streaming, and not for purchase. He plans to release it on 26 April, after an album launch on April 25 at Social in Delhi.

‘Brevity’ along with Hashish’s previous works such as ‘Stoned’, ‘The Grinning Naked Bunch LP’ and more are distributed online through CD Baby, the online music store specialising in the sale of CDs and music downloads from independent musicians to consumers. It is also available on iTunes, Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Speaking about CD Baby distributing his music, Hashish said, “CD Baby is a DIY (Do It Yourself) music distribution site. So, I upload my music on CD Baby, and since they have associations with iTunes and other music purchase websites, CD Baby distributes my music.”

Hashish’s SXSW gig is courtesy of Sonicbids, an online platform that aspires to bring musicians together with people looking to book or license music.

Hashback Hashish performs at the SXSW Showcase on Friday 20 March at The Iron Bear, Austin, Texas. He will later be seen at Social, Hauz Kaus, Delhi on 25 April.
