Pyaar Impossible
Composer: Salim Sulaiman
Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan
Rating: 2.5/5
Composers Salim-Sulaiman are slowly getting back in their groove or at least it seems so. Their latest Pankho Ko from Rocket Singh had a great combination of melody and lyrics. And after listening to Pyaar Impossible's Alisha, expectations get even higher. But does the rest of the album deliver? Read on
Pyaar Impossible opens with the extremely catchy Alisha (I doub't you'll explore other songs from the album once you have been hooked to this). The song features Anoushka Manchanda singing the major parts, but Salim Merchant's vocals are equally enchanting. The fact that it's coming from Salim-Suilaman is surely surprising because the arrangements, the treatment are trademark Rahman. On a lighter note, it almost seems that the duo had taken the blessings of Rahman while composing this or the least shared his sound engineer! After Rahman made the Aditi's of the world feel special, its time for the Alisha's of the world to rejoice. There is no doubt that the song will be a yet another chartbuster, but as far as 'novelty' goes... it has already been done before.
Rock On fame Dominique Cerejo and Vishal Dadlani come together for a conversational song 'Pyaar Impossible'. Though this song has energy and attitude, it takes a while to grow. One of the reasons could be the fact that the song lacks variations and starts sounding monotonous after a minute or so. Though it may not be something for your I-pod, but the Cerejo - Dadlani combination surely sounds great to be explored in future.
Benny Dayal and Neha Bhasin carry forward the energetic peppy theme of the film in the song You and Me. The song has a catchy chorus line and that 'beatbox touch' especially meant for discos (?). The song has some highly hinglish lyrics, which at times get overbearing. We are used to it, nevermind. While a voice like Benny Dayal gets wasted, the wannabe pop star 'harkats' by Neha Bhasin put you off. This is one of those songs 'You and Me' will have to bear.
The album gets even more disappointing as we move ahead. Where is the originality? the next track 10 on 10 sounds like punk rockers Greenday stumbling on bollywood (not meeting!) A badly mashed up song, 10 on 10 has wild energy, and if that's what it was meant to be, a bit of control and direction could have given listeners some patience. What you hear on this song is Anoushka Manchanda, Mahua Kamat and Naresh Kamath screaming their lungs out
The last track Ek Thi Ladki is a great mix of all the 'hooks' that you'll hear on this album from the start, and a high pitched voice of Rishika Sawant. This mushy 'apt for college gathering'dance song', can be irritating with all the onomatopoeic expressions like bara bara boom and what not. Best to be seen with visuals, as it is more of an character introductory song. As far as remixes go, the album features one remix version of Pyaar Impossible and Alisha.
A rom-com featuring Uday Chopra and Priyanka Chopra, Pyaar Impossible's music is hip and young with a lot of grooves. The hitch is - the album has many influences from other artistes or previously released bollywood music. Salim - Sulaiman as composers might be still looking to get into their previous form, however, Salim Merchant as a singer is surely in groove. In sum, Pyaar Impossible - the album is just worth one track - Alisha.
