MUMBAI: Robbie Williams has collected over 150 items of memorabilia for a charity auction ‘Doing it for The Kids’, which took place at Bonhams in London. The ‘Feel’ singer managed to raise $226,000, which will be donated to Donna Louise Children's Hospice, of which Williams is a patron. Objects that went under the hammer included his MTV music awards, hand-written song lyrics, performance outfits, and platinum discs, amongst others.
Prior to the auction, Williams released an official statement which said, “It is a privilege for me to be a patron of The Donna Louise Children's Hospice; it makes a real difference to these children whose lives have been tragically limited. The sale gives a great opportunity for bidders to know their money will go to such a fantastic charity, whilst also taking home some of my most prized possessions that have been personal markers of my career and life so far."
According to reports, the set of handwritten lyrics belong to the track ‘Go Gentle’ and was sold for £31,250, while his MTV Movie Award went for £10,625. Meanwhile, handwritten lyrics for ‘Let Me Entertain You’ sold for £2,750 and the outfit, he wore in the music video of his single ‘Radio’ brought in £2,750.
Being an ambassador of UNICEF, the ‘Candy’ singer often raises money and donates it to charity. He also travelled to Mozambique post floods in 2000 and also is a staunch supporter of the UNICELF Campaign, ‘Unite for Children, Unite for AIDS’.
