MUMBAI: Well known singers, writers, freedom fighters, painters and dancers, will soon feature on a series of India post stamps that will be released soon, stated the Government. Further, the philatelic advisory committee under the chairmanship of Minister for Communication & IT- Ravi Shankar Prasad, decided that picture postcards stamps covering tourist places like Taj Mahal, Ajanta and Ellora, Belur Math and Khajuraho among others, will be made available.
Ceremonial stamps issued will be made available in all post offices for easy purchase by the public.
The Philatelic Advisory Committee (PAC) has members ranging from various fields such as art, literature, music and dance, who participated in the meeting. The committee also suggested that designs of philatelic stamps will be through crowd sourcing. The committee also offered valuable suggestions in the previously mentioned fields and examined ways to promote philately stamps through culture and policies among the public of various age groups. Prasad stated that stamps should be promoted among children as well.
The MOC & IT (Minister of Communication & IT) also plans to use technology to promote the stamps. It plans to have a mobile app that will have information about the philatelic stamps. The Ministry also intends to use social media to promote philately.
In 2013, commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary poet and lyricist late Sahir Ludhianvi, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee had released a commemorative postage stamp on 8 March at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
