MUMBAI: After being bestowed with the prominent music award- Swati Puraskar, and two acres of land in Veli (Thiruvananthapuram), Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan have planned to come up with a music academy and a hostel, where students can learn music and also stay within the premises.
“I am very thankful to the Kerala government for the award and the land they gave me. We plan to open a music academy and a hostel over there so that the students from the academy can also live close to it, said Khan. He also feels that the future generation, which is learning music, looks really great.
Khan’s sons- Amaan and Ayaan will also be teaching at the academy, along with their father. Talking about when the academy is expected to be launched, his younger son, Ayaan said, “The academy is in its planning stage at the moment. And we as musicians, we are always travelling, so our focus is always shifting. Additionally, the administrative things are not in our hand. So, I think it is going to take us a while to set up the entire thing.”
The musicians also revealed that they will not only be teaching students to play the sarod, but will also impart knowledge on various genres of music.
The Swati Puraskar award was presented to the maestro by the Kerala government for his contribution to music. The award is named after the great composer Maharaja Swathi Thirunal.
