MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi, Delhi’s most popular radio station once again brought sunshine in the life of one of its listeners. On the evening of 30th September, Radio Mirchi declared Geetanjali Babbar as the proud winner of ‘FLAT 983’ on-air contest.
Radio Mirchi awarded Geetanjali with a flat– sponsored by Investors Clinic for her selfless work – towards improving the lives of children of sex workers. Geetanjali is a courageous lady who decided to knock on the doors of brothel owners with a vision of giving new lease of life to children of sex workers. Delhi's G.B. Road is a place where no woman would go voluntarily but she did the impossible. After sipping several teas at brothels with their respective owners, she managed to launch 'Kat-Katha' -- a nonprofit organization -- that has been transforming G.B. Road brothels into classrooms, community centers, and safe spaces for the women.
In the third season, Mirchi designed the ‘FLAT 983’ contest purely on sunshine value to touch the emotional chords of its listeners. The aim of the station this year was to appreciate ‘Delhi Ke Heroes’. The contest was kick-started in the first week of September. Mirchi team had requested the residents of Delhi to send nominations of people who are working towards the betterment of society voluntarily. The entries started pouring in just after the first announcement and after screening all the entries in-depth, the most persuasive stories were selected as the top five finalists.
For one week, the station voiced out the story of the selected heroes through his or her personal interviews in all the shows. All that Delhi had to do was to vote for their favorite contestant.
Commenting on the initiative Radio Mirchi station head Nitin Singh, said, “It gives us immense pride in culminating another edition of ‘FLAT 983’ contest. This year Mirchi not only provided a dream come true reward but it also gave recognition to those who deserve it the most. We hope to continue in contributing to our society through our innovative concepts.”
Adding on the occasion, Investors Clinic founder & CEO, said, “‘Be the change that you wish to see in the world’ as said by Mahatma Gandhi is practiced by not many in today's time. But our top five finalists of ‘FLAT 983’ seem to be practitioners of such selfless principles. Rajesh, Geetanjali, Omkar, Dorris and Sylvester are people who have contributed to our society selflessly. Investors Clinic takes it as a privilege to honour and acknowledges these people with such mettle and zeal who work hard in their everyday life to be that change.”
Congratulating the winner Bollywood personality Irrfan Khan said, “Geetanjali your work is very inspirational and you are the real hero”.
Joining Irrfan, Konkona Sen said, “‘FLAT 983’ is a brilliant initiative by Radio Mirchi and your work is very inspirational. We are very proud of you.”
