Tom Petty to host two-hour special for launch of Tom Petty Radio on SiriusXM

MUMBAI: Hosting ‘Buried Treasure’ by Tom Petty on SiriusXM channel, which has now entered its ninth season does not seem to have been enough, which is why SiriusXM has brought to its subscribers Tom Petty Radio. The new channel will not only have a mix of music and audio content by the singer, but will also be curated by Petty himself.

"We are so honored and grateful to SiriusXM for giving our fans access to all of our music, from our biggest hits to very obscure tracks only available through this channel,” said Petty.

Tom Petty Radio will be launched on 20 November and will be made available on SiriusXM devices and on the SiriusXM app. He will be the first DJ on the channel and will host a two hour special on the day of the launch, which will also have Petty playing music from his entire career along with commentary about the songs.

There will be a blend of music from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Petty’s solo career, the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch, which will cover the musical work of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

SiriusXM subscribers, who desire more, will get access to unreleased studio and live recordings. The new channel will also air unique cover versions of Petty’s songs, and rare live performances from Petty’s personal vaults, including the worldwide radio debut of Tom and The Heartbreakers' 30 August, 2014 concert at Fenway Park in Boston. There will be a DJ session hosted by members of Petty’s band The Heartbreakers -- Steve Ferrone and Benmont Tench -- as well as Lucinda Williams, Jackson Browne, Dhani Harrison, The Byrds’ founding member Roger McGuinn, and others.

Commenting on the channel, the ‘I Won’t Back Down’ singer added, "I intend to be very hands on and supply brand new exclusive tracks as well as rarities from our vaults. Our biggest hope is for a channel that is always entertaining in the way only radio can be."

Apart from the fresh ninth season of critically-acclaimed weekly SiriusXM show of Petty’s Buried Treasure, Tom Petty Radio will also feature archival episodes.

The new channel will be a platform to release new music recorded by the 80-million-records selling artist, and will also have Petty’s interview conducted by acclaimed journalist and SiriusXM host, David Fricke.
