Pandit Ravi Shankar's final recordings to be unveiled in May

MUMABI: Renowned sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar’s last three set of recordings rendered in October 2011, will be released in May by East Meets West Music . This would be the first posthumous release of the recordings of the veteran musician who passed away in December last year. The three recordings are part of seven recordings that the sitar maestro recorded in October 2011. Four of these recordings were released in 2012, which fetched him the prestigious Grammy award for Best World Music Album.

BBC promotes Mark Cooper as head of music television

MUMBAI: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has promoted Mark Cooper as its head of music television with immediate effect, as part of plans to develop a radio and television music hub in central London. In his new role, Cooper will oversee a new combined department producing both classical and popular music. The new department will be responsible for making and producing all in-house output from the Proms to Glastonbury. He currently holds the position of the creative head of music entertainment at BBC.

Apple and Universal Music to ink deal for radio licensing

MUMBAI: In a major collaboration of sorts, tech giant Apple is expected to sign its first radio licensing agreement with leading music label Universal Music for the 'iRadio' music streaming service. As per reports, the two companies have reached the final stages of negotiations and Warner Music is reported to be close behind for the same. Apple is expected to launch a web radio service similar to Pandora's later this year, provided that executives there can strike an agreement with Sony Music Entertainment along with music publishers.

Twitter acquires music service We Are Hunted

MUMBAI: Twitter has acquired Australian-based music streaming startup We Are Hunted. Both companies confirmed the deal but terms and financial details of the agreement are not disclosed publicly. According to We Are Hunted website,  "While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team.” The music streaming site was launched in Brisbane, Australia in 2009 but recently they relocated to California.
