AIR tops listeners' charts: Jawahar Sircar

MUMBAI: Addressing an interactive discussion on the future of the print and electronic media, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawahar Sircar stated that All India Radio still tops the listeners’ charts with 299 channels as compared to other radio players. The discussion, titled 'Will the Print & Electronic Media Survive?' was organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), to discuss the state of the media and the entertainment industry that is expected to grow 11.8 percent in 2013 driven by digitization and the growth of new media.

MUMBAI: Gangnam style rapper Psy is again making headlines as his new single ‘Gentleman’ has received over 52 million views within two days. With this single, the YouTube sensation has proved that he is there to stay. The dance video to ‘Gentleman’, the South Korean singer’s long-awaited follow up to ‘Gangnam Style’, was posted on YouTube at 9 pm (1200 GMT) on Saturday. The video has received mixed reactions but Psy carries the phrase well 'Love me or hate me, but you can't ignore me’ as the number of views on YouTube have spoken it all.

I&B Ministry to set up 24 hour news channel on AIR

MUMBAI: Aiming to strictly improve the quality of content, the I&B Ministry is now considering various steps to set up a 24 hour news channel on All India Radio (AIR), based on the lines of DD News. The announcement was made by Information & Broadcasting Secretary Uday Kumar Varma while addressing a meeting in Amritsar with Punjab based heads of various media units of I&B. He mentioned that the government is exploring various aspects and the technicalities involved in launching such a channel on AIR.

I&B Ministry assures Parliamentary Committee of expeditious action on mushrooming of media schools

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry is to proactively pursue the work of a Task Force set up by the Human Resource Development Ministry to examine the issue of mushrooming of media schools all over the country The I&B Ministry gave this assurance to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology in an action-taken report presented during the current session of Parliament.

Statutory regulatory body must for broadcasting sector: Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: Even as the government has decided to give self-regulation of television channels a chance, the Delhi High Court asked the Union Government to constitute a Statutory Regulatory Body to control the Electronic Media. The Bench led by Justice Pradeep Nandarajog rejected the idea of self-regulation of the broadcasters. The directive came on a public interest litigation against 'Emotional Atyachar' telecast on UTV Bindass in 2010.
