RAPA gets 1,000 nominations for RAPA Awards 2007

MUMBAI: The Radio and TV Advertising Practitioners Association of India Ltd (RAPA), which honours creative work in the radio and television field, has attracted 1,000 nominations for the 33rd All India RAPA Awards for Excellence 2007. Last year, RAPA received 700 nominations for the awards."We are happy to get a phenomenal increase of more than 43 per cent in the number of nominations for the 33rd All India RAPA Awards for Excellence 2007," said RAPA Awards committee chairman Viresh Chaddha.

Zee Kannada announces fourth season of 'Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa'

BANGALORE: Zee Kannada has announced the fourth season of its talent hunt reality show Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa. This season, like the immediate previous one, will be called Lil Champs and is aimed at children between the age group of seven and 12 years. The new season starts on 12 April. Miditech Bangalore is the production house for the programme.

American Idol raises $60 mn for charity

MUMBAI: Idol Gives Back, the charity initiative from Fox's music-based reality show American Idol, has raised $60 million from corporates and individuals. Six charities, including Children's Defense Fund, The Children's Health Fund, The Global Fund and Make It Right, stand to benefit from this initiative. Also on the on-air show, finalist Michael Johns was eliminated from the competition after he received the fewest of America's approximately 31 million votes.

Apple tops brand survey, but consumers say Sony's a peach

MUMBAI: Although Apple scored top marks in the 2008 Brandjunkie survey, Apple's popular iPod range didn't make the top three in a poll of 293 MP3 players. According to online consumer review site www.reevoo.com, the MP3 player race was dominated by Sony with the Sony NWE016BC just nudging the Sony NWZA816 into second place. Third was the Hitachi DMP20 2GB, followed by the New Green iPod Nano 8GB in fourth and the Black Samsung YP-P2JCB 8GB in fifth.

Worldspace starts car radio service in Germany

MUMBAI: Worldspace Satellite Radio has received an approval from Bundesnetzagentur, Germany's Federal Network Agency to provide German consumers with a subscription-based satellite radio service in automobiles. It authorized World Space to use 12.5 MHz of spectrum in the L-band (1479.5 - 1492 MHz) on a nation-wide basis for the operation of a terrestrial repeater network in Germany.

Radio City goes on air in Pune

MUMBAI: Punekars got their second private radio station with Radio City 91.1 FM making its launch in the city. Radio Mirchi is already operational in Pune. This is Radio City's 18th FM station in India and its seventh station in Maharashtra.
