Last.fm launches global free-on-demand music platform

MUMBAI: London-based Last.fm, which works in the area of online music, has launched a service to allow anyone in the world to listen to music on the site for free. The company says that its library has attracted a community of more than 20 million unique monthly users in 240 countries around the globe. The heart of Last.fm is a recommendation engine that guides listeners to music they are likely to enjoy based on prior selections, connecting them with the music they love and with others who share their tastes.

Sony Ericsson launches FM-AM radio-mobile handsets

NEW DELHI: Sony Ericsson today announced the global launch of four new mobile phones, two of them are "inspired by India" and have FM-AM radio on the phone, as the company's user interface showed that radio is a craze in India, senior managers of the company said. Produced in the company's Chennai facility, the two India-specific phones, R300i Radio and R306i Radio will be launched in the Indian market in the first quarter of this year and will be priced between Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000, respectively.

Bangalore to host rock fest in Feb

BANGALORE: Event management company Buenos Entertainment (BE) and On The Rocks, a rock pub in Bangalore will hold a rock festival – Rock Ethos on 10 February in Bangalore. The fest, construed on the lines of the legendary Woodstock festival, will havecombinations of 15 leading rock bands from Bangalore performing for 45 minutes each, unlike the regular 20-30 minutes allotted time, says a release.

MUMBAI: Big FM has announced launch of its 43rd FM station in Rourkela, Orissa on 23 January, making it the first private channel operating in the steel city. MUMBAI: Big FM's Hyderabad station has commenced podcast of its shows. The year appears to have begun with radio stations keen to exploit the Net space. While Big FM had taken the lead in the space by beginning podcast of select shows from its Bangalore station late last year, the Bhaskar group's My FM followed last week by commencing podcast of all its stations. Big FM is the first in Hyderabad to offer podcast of its shows, says a release.
