Hindustan Times chairman K K Birla dies at 90

MUMBAI: Hindustan Times Group chairman and noted industrialist, Dr KK Birla, passed away in Kolkata on Saturday morning after a brief illness. Dr Birla was 90 years old. The former Rajya Sabha member is survived by three daughters -- Nandini Nopany, Jyoti Poddar and Shobhana Bhartia, vice chairperson and editorial adviser of Hindustan Times. His wife Manorama Devi Birla had died about a month ago.

Jagjit Singh releases music of Punjabi film

New Delhi: Renowned vocalist Jagjit Singh today said emphatically that he would like to be known as an all round singer and not just a ghazal singer since had had rendered music in all genres. The singer was speaking after the music launch of Punjabi film �Sat Sri Akal' directed by Kamal Sahni. Music for the film has been composed by Ravinder Singh. The album, which comprises 12 numbers, has two tracks sung by Jagjit Singh himself.

OSO strikes gold at Beijing too

MUMBAI: It wasn't just the boxers and shooters who brought home glory from Beijing. Bollywood too made some noise with the Israeli gymnastic team using Om Shanti Om's popular Dhoom Tana number for their routine. The song did not prove very lucky for the team though which managed to secure the sixth position in the gymnastics category. The song ran for three minutes during the Israeli team's routine, with the tempo building up towards the end, to culminate in a formation by the Israeli girls.
