Radio players eyes 20-30% ad revenue boost this festive season

MUMBAI: Traditionally, advertisers tend to spend more during the festive season (October-December quarter) and Radio always remains essential part of an advertiser's media plan. Many brands pump in money on new festive promotions during this period and look at the radio medium because of its reach and fastest 'go-to-market' ability that makes it the most cost-effective medium. Loy Mendonsa collaborates with Swarathma for their second album

MUMBAI: Composer Loy Mendonsa of the famous musician trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has collaborated with the Bangalore-based folk rock band �Swarathma' for their second album. Mendonsa assisted the band throughout the 11 tracks of the album, which are based on several themes from corrupt politicians to media-led mind control. The composer has also helped the band in translating the live performance element into their recordings.

NCPA to host International festival 'Jazzmatazz'

Italian DJ Valerio Alessandro Sizzi wins 'Nokia Tune Contest'

MUMBAI: Italian �DJ Valerio Alessandro Sizzi' has won the �Nokia Tune contest', a search for the company's next modern ringtone. Sizzi, a 22-year-old Italian audio design graduate with his tune 'dub-step' reimagining of Tarrega's Grande Valse, has won $10,000 cash prize. Amid over 6,200 other entries, Sizzi's version pulled 1,000 Facebook marking his place in Nokia's mobile history book. Sizzi's 24-second version of the iconic Nokia ringtone, will be preloaded on more than 100 million handsets as to be shipped all over the world.

Removal of DRM can decrease music piracy: report

MUMBAI: Removal of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions can decrease piracy, according to a new research from Rice and Duke University. Marketing professors Dinah Vernik of Rice and Devavrat Purohit and Preyas Desai of Duke used analytical modeling to examine how piracy is influenced by the presence or absence of DRM restrictions. They found that while these restrictions make piracy more costly and difficult, the restrictions also have a negative impact on legal users who have no intention of doing anything illegal.

Ordinance soon for changes in Prasar Bharati Act

NEW DELHI: An ordinance is expected to be promulgated shortly to make changes in the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act 1990 following the recommendations of a Group of Ministers which examined various issues relating to the pubcaster. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has done a comprehensive review of the provisions of the Prasar Bharati Act and has recommended certain amendments to the Act, which have been approved by the Law Ministry.

Arvind Kumar to remain in I&B Ministry

NEW DELHI: Arvind Kumar, Joint Secretary (Broadcasting) in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, has been asked to stay on �until further orders'. Earlier, he had been asked to take over as the chief vigilance officer in the National Buildings Construction Corporation from 1 October. Arvind Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service officer from Uttar Pradesh from the 1988 batch, had been elevated from the post of director in August last year. He succeeded the slot vacated by Zohra Chatterji.
