Universal Music to sell Sanctuary Records to BMG

MUMBAI: After having sold Parlophone Music Group to Warner earlier, Universal Music has now agreed to sell yet another label Sanctuary Records to BMG for $62 million. The sale is a part of the divestitures mandated by the European Commission as a condition of approving Universal's acquisition of EMI Group. BMG had earlier lost out on acquiring Parlophone, but now managed to bag Sanctuary Records in its stable. The label comprises of 170,000 recordings of rock and heavy metal acts including Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeth and more in its catalogue.

Trai issues second consultation paper on media ownership

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai)  released a consultation paper today on issues related to media cross-ownership and sought comments from stakeholders on the subject. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) had earlier sought comments from the regulator on the issue.

Saavn announces premium music service 'Saavn Pro'

NEW DELHI: South Asian Audio Video Network (Saavn) which offers music service in Indian and English languages has announced subscription-based premium service Saavn Pro. The service will bring offline and ad-free music to the Indian market as well as significant user base in the US, UK and other major markets. The service will be available at the Apple app store from March while Android and feature phone premium services is on the cards. As per an official release, the service received around 10,000 sign-ups within the first 48 hours of early-interest registration.
