Music Today could not have chosen two better artistes to bring out the essence of their ode to womanhood - Yami.

Shubha Mudgal and Shobana, vocalist and dancer par excellence, proved once again that sheer talent is all that counts, when they peformed at Yami on Friday evening.

Mumbai's Shanmukhananda auditorium was packed with connoisseurs of both music and dance, to watch the two artistes unfold their magic on stage. Music Today also wove in honours for women from various arts into the event, adding an extra dimension to their evening.

There was Bagheshwari Qamar, a shehnai player who has tutored under Ustad Bismillah Khan; Gulabi a tribal dancer who has taken the Rajasthani folk dance to unheard of heights and Arundhati Nag, a renowned theatre and film personality and others who were felicitated for their contribution to their respective fields.

Mudgal, who performed first with her troupe Koshish, enthralled with her renditions of Gulzar and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, before she had the audience tapping their feet to her popular numbers - Ab Ke Sawan and Ayo Re.

Shobana, who followed, was a visual delight as she with her troupe, enacted pieces woven around the legends of Kali and Durga.
