Rolling Stones call off Australia and New Zeland tour following L'Wren Scott's death
MUMBAI: English rock band Rolling Stones has pulled the plug on the remainder of its Australia and New Zealand tour- '14 On Fire'. The news came after the death of L'Wren Scott, long time partner of the band's frontman Mick Jagger.
The band released a statement on Tuesday which said, “The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry and disappointed to announce the postponement of the rest of their 14 ON FIRE tour of Australia and New Zealand following the death of L'Wren Scott. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood wish to thank all of their fans for their support at this difficult time and hope that they will fully understand the reason for this announcement. The Rolling Stones are planning to reschedule these postponed shows at a later date."
Seven of the tour's shows have been postponed, beginning from 19 March in Perth, followed by those in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Macedon, Brisbane and Auckland.
Jagger had been dating Scott since 2001 when they first met at a photo shoot. The 70 year old rocker posted a message online in which he revealed that he was still trying to understand how his “lover and best friend” could have taken her own life. “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her," he said in his message.
The 49 year old fashion designer and former model was found hanging in her apartment on 17 March 2014. Reports state that although there was no note, there were no signs of foul play either and it is suspected to be suicide.
