The Midival Punditz' fourth studio album to feature Kutle Khan, Papon and others

MUMBAI: Delhi-based Electronica act, The Midival Punditz is working on a new album that they plan to release by the end of July 2014. The project, untitled as of now, will feature a lot of collaborations and will be their fourth studio album.

"It has been more than three years since our last album came out. After that we started composing music. But we have been finalising and finishing the album for the past one year now. That is what is taking most of our time these days," said Tapan Raj.

According to Raj, a lot of the music in their upcoming album is inspired by Indian folk music. "We have used a lot of elements from the folk music in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and from down South. There will, of course, be a lot of Electronica which is our signature sound. It is quite exciting. There are a lot of collaborators that we are working with on this album. Guitarist Baiju Dharmajan, Malini Awasthi, Rajasthani folk musician Kutle Khan, Assamese singer Papon, flautist Ajay Prasanna and many more," Raj confirmed.

Their new album will have 10 songs in all. "We had many more but these were the ones we thought should be on the album. A lot of the process of completing the album is discarding songs that we think will not fit in the album. These 10 are the ones we are very happy with and have thus made it to the album," he said. Raj also added that almost all the songs have been played live at various festivals and pubs across the country. "The ones that got good responses are the ones we are keeping on the album; they seem to have a good connection with audiences."

All the tracks will have vocals, except for one, which will be instrumental. Gaurav Raina, the other half of the duo, has sung on two tracks along with other collaborators. Raj also confirmed that some of the songs will definitely be supported by videos.

The duo is looking to tour internationally, as well as in India after the release of their new album and are yet to finalise a music label to tie up with.

Recently The Midival Punditz posted on their Facebook page about having worked with Kutle Khan on a special project. "Sony Music is coming out with a ‘Purity of Sound' project for which they got various musicians to collaborate with each other and record one song exclusively for it. So for that, we chose to work with Kutle Khan," answered Raj.

The duo has been nominated for the Vh1 Sound Nation Awards in the category of best Electronica DJ.
