Mihir Joshi's Mumbai Blues

Album: Mumbai Blues

Label: Times Music

Band: Mihir Joshi Band

Rating: 3/5

Mihir Joshi is a name that most people know as Musicmanmihir for his radio show that he ran more than 5 years ago. After doing a number of live shows as a singer with his band, it was only obvious that the album bug should bite Mihir as well. Mumbai Blues is the new album released by Mihir Joshi Band and it sounds like an old soul’s album. It has the heart of an old man with the pulse of a young one. While the songs are simple with catchy lyrics, there is a monotonous thread to the compositions which may not necessarily be a negative trait because sometimes people want to have a seamless flow in their listening experience.

This album is not for the masses or for those who wish for variety. It is for the niche and the known. Mihir himself has a huge following and is very well connected in the music industry and I am sure that he will have quite a few takers for the album. Personally my favourites are the fourth and ninth tracks as they are very melodic and well sung. The other songs are nice, but pretty similar to each other. All in all, the album is good and will grow on you in a couple of listens. Mihir has managed to showcase his vocals comfortably and not tried something that he cannot do. The album sounds like Blues comes natural to him, and like it is a reflection of his inner self.
