Nokia India to boost app development

MUMBAI: With an aim to boost mobile app development on Nokia Lumia and Windows platform, a new initiative ‘Appcelerate-India’ is announced by Nokia India. The Finnish handset major has collaborated with AppCampus (Finland) and members of Harvard Business School Alumni Angels (India Chapter). This will involve $500,000 investment which will provide grants, seed funding, mentoring, incubation resources to discover disruptive applications and nurture talented Indian mobile start-ups.

Bhajan Sopori disciple becomes first Kashmiri to receive gold medal in Music

MUMBAI: Shabir Mir has become the first Kashmiri to receive a Gold Medal in Masters in Music (Vocal) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Shabir stood first in the University Exam and was awarded by the UPSE Chairman Prof. D P Agrawal. Shabir is a disciple of the Music Legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori. He had his initial training from Pt. R K Raina and Prof. D M Khan. He is also learning Tabla from the renowned Tabla maestro Ustad Rafiuddin Sabri.

Billboard Latin Awards: Don Omar strikes, Jenni Rivera remembered

MUMBAI: Reggaeton star Don Omar struck gold at the Billboard Latin Music Awards taking home 10 awards including Songs Artist of the Year, Male and Airplay Song of the year for ‘Dutty Love’, featuring Natty Natasha. Omar also won Streaming Artist of the Year and Streaming Song of the Year for ‘Danza Kuduro’, featuring Lucenzo - the two new categories reflect Billboard's recent addition of streaming data into its chart methodology.  The Puerto Rican star was nominated in a record 18 categories.

Asha Bhosle to get Phalke Academy award

MUMBAI: Singer Asha Bhosle has been bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award. Other dignitaries bestowed with the award include actress Mala Sinha, late filmmaker Yash Chopra and late superstar Rajesh Khanna. The ceremony will be held on 30 April. Bhosle is renowned for her voice range and often credited for her versatility and will receive the Phalke Ratna Award from the academy. The Government of India had honoured her with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

MUMBAI: This summer Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus will launch her first new single. The Last Song actress is rumored to have called off her engagement with Liam Hemsworth, said she is interested only in her new music now, according to agencies. According to reports, 20- year-old singer said, “All I do is focus on my music. The only place I ever am is at the studio. My friends, my relationships with like everyone around me has honestly changed since I've been working on my record, because it is the only thing that I have wanted to give 120 per cent to.”

Manish Tewari inaugrates Centenary Film Festival

NEW DELHI: The inauguration of a special festival to mark the Centenary of Indian cinema was given a unique touch when a live music orchestra of more than 30 people played as the silent film ‘Throw of Dice’ by Franz Osten was being screened. The orchestra was conducted by renowned maestro Nishat Khan. There were separate screens in front of the musicians so that they could react musically to what was happening on the large screen at Sirifort Auditorium which was filled to capacity.
