MUMBAI: The contemporary doyen of Indian classical music Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj has been conferred with a Doctorate by Utkal University of Culture, Orissa for his outstanding contribution in the Indian Classical Music. The doctorate was bestowed by Hon'ble Governor of Orrisa and Chancellor of Utkal University of Culture Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. This is the third doctorate that Pandit Jasraj has been honored with; previously the legend has been honoured by Vishwa Unnayan Sansad, West Bengal and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

The law has been designed to "protect the owners, creators and other rights holders rights against the profitable sacking of their assets on illegal downloading websites," government spokesperson Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said. Santamaria said a commission of intellectual property would decide whether to shutter a website violating the law.

According to British Phonographic Industry (BPI), CD sales fell by 12.6 per cent to 82.2 million but digital album sales rose by 24 per cent to 26.6 million and sales of vinyl LPs increased by 43.7 per cent to 337,000 – its highest figure since 2005.
