MUMBAI: The contemporary doyen of Indian classical music Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj has been conferred with a Doctorate by Utkal University of Culture, Orissa for his outstanding contribution in the Indian Classical Music. The doctorate was bestowed by Hon'ble Governor of Orrisa and Chancellor of Utkal University of Culture Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. This is the third doctorate that Pandit Jasraj has been honored with; previously the legend has been honoured by Vishwa Unnayan Sansad, West Bengal and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

MUMBAI: Epic Records has signed a recording deal with Melanie Amaro following her triumphant in The X Factor – Season One. The contract will place Amaro under the management of The X Factor judge Antonio �L.A.' Reid (Epic Records Chairman/CEO). The deal is a part of �X Factor' awards, which also includes $5 million cash prize, recording contract with Epic's parent company Sony Music and role in Pepsi commercial which will air during the Super Bowl in February.

MUMBAI: After hosting documentary of some well-known artistes including The Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, Live from the consoles in its seventh edition will showcase documentary of legendary rock band King of Leon. The documentary will take a detour in the past and religious upbringing of the rock band. The show will also feature Rachel Sarmanni (Singer/ Songwriter), Nirmika & The Few Good Men (Hinglish Pop-Rock, Reggae, Jazz) and Gowri (Acoustic, Bangalore based band) on 7 January, at Mehboob Studio, Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan was presented with the Mallikarjun Mansur award in recognition of his achievements. Khan, a Padma Vibushan awardee said, "I deem it is a great honour bestowed on me. It is a big award for me.... He showered praise on the cultural heritage of Dharwad, which he said has patronised music in a big way and urged Rajasekhara Mansur, son of the legendary Hindustani singer Mallikarjun Mansur, who presented the award, to continue his father`s legacy.
