Radio City launches 'Music Ka PH-D'

MUMBAI: Radio City has recently launched a Bollywood music-based quiz contest, titled â€?Music Ka PH.D'. The show begins from 8 September on â€?Whatte Fun Mornings' (7 – 11 am), the contest will last for a month  Mumbai  RJs Harssh and Archana and Bengaluru's RJs Kiran and Varsha will test the music gyaan of its listeners in these cities.

Sony BMG bags 'Raaz' sequel rights

MUMBAI: The sequel to Vishesh Films' Raaz, that had composer duo Nadeem Shravan creating a hit score, will have a team of composers working on the score this time. While Raaz' music rights lay with Tips, the music rights of Raaz - The Mystery Continues have been acquired by Sony BMG. The Sabri brothers, Sharid and Toshi, both participants of reality shows, will mark their debut in the Hindi film industry with this movie.

EMI, Warner Music Group broaden partnership

MUMBAI: EMI and Warner Music Group have extended their tie up with a new marketing and distribution partnership in India, South East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. The announcement was made on 8 September in London. Warner Music Group will market and distribute EMI's worldwide repertoire in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea and Thailand under this multi-year license agreement. The exclusive local physical and digital distributor of all EMI Music releasese will be taken care by WMG.

BBC rolls out 2-city campaign to promote its FM content

MUMBAI: BBC has rolled out a campaign to promote its three shows that run on various FM radio stations in India. The campaign, which includes print advertising and on-ground activation, are for its three infotainment shows - BBC Ek Minute, Ek Mulaqat and BBC Take One. The month-long campaign will be rolled in Mumbai and Gwalior. As part of its print advertising, the ads will be placed in Mid-Day, Mumbai Mirror and Maharashtra Times.

Sanskrit rock band 'Shanti Shanti' launch sixth album

MUMBAI: 'Shanti Shanti', the Sanskrit rock band has come up with a new album, titled 'Veda', based on the oldest scripture of the world - the Vedas. The band presented the first copy of the album to acclaimed Hindu leader and president of Universal Society of Hinduism Rajan Zed in Nevada. The CD produced by Ganesha Publishing BMI contains shlokas (hymns) from all four Vedas-Rig-veda, Sama-veda, Atharva-veda, and Yajur-veda. With some shlokas being as old as 1,500 BCE, it took one year to complete extensive research and selection process for the CD.

M M Satish quits T-Series

MUMBAI: T-Series Public Performance License (TPPL) president M M Satish has put in his papers at music company T-Series, with which he was associated for over last five years. The anti-piracy crusader, who made headlines with his anti piracy measures as head of the PPL at the Indian Music Industry, and then as head of TPPL, is turning scriptwriter and producer for Hindi films. Satish will be taking up the position of CEO of a reputed entertainment company within a month.

Saregama walks Mumbaikars down music memory lane

MUMBAI: Saregama India is hosting a music exhibition at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai (formerly, the Prince of Wales Museum). The exhibition aims to take visitors through the transformation of Indian music in the past 110 years. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar inaugurated the exhibition on Friday. The exhibition will last till 30 September, 2008.
