Akash Verma joins Big FM as regional head, North II

MUMBAI: Red FM's national head, activations and events Akash Verma has joined Big FM as its Regional Head - North II. Verma, who has over 13 years of experience across media and the FMCG sector, will be based in Delhi and will look after the entire functioning of the North II stations, which include Delhi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Agra, Udaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Hissar, Bikaner and Ajmer. Verma was the Delhi Station Head at Red FM and was also handling their national portfolio of Activations and Events. Verma has previously worked with Times FM and Coca Cola India.

Friends FM launches second season of 'Gaadi car' contest

MUMBAI: Kolkata based Friends FM has started its second season of the 'Gadi Car' initiative from 4 August to 18 August. Seven listeners will get an opportunity to win seven brand new cars. 'Saat Din e Saat Gaadi' viz 'seven days seven cars' is a high powered tune-in promotion in Kolkata whereby seven Maruti 800s will be given to seven winners. The show last year had generated nearly one million SMSs for the contest, says the station. The audience has to SMS the correct answers for the question asked on air and win a brand new car as the prize.

FM stations celebrate Friendship Day

MUMBAI: FM stations across the country have chalked up elaborate plans to celebrate Friendship Day over the weekend. Big FM Delhi has formed the Friendship club with RJ Sujata and RJ Ravi. The station will share various callers' memories with their friends, whereas Bangalore celebrates the Chaddu Dostu contest where gang of friends connect to their friends from any place like college, school or social sites like Orkut and Facebook. Big FM Gujrat will have shows hosted live from the ground. The RJs will involve participants into competitions like compatibility test and more activities.

Barista launches music initiative for Friendship Day

MUMBAI: Barista has planned a music initiative, Friendship Jam for the first time on the occasion of Friendship Day. The initiative will run in three Indian cities, from 30 July till 3 August. Barista marketing head Vishal Kapoor says, "The guitar has always been an integral part of Barista and we conceived that a guitarist and his band can perform live at Barista. We are holding the event in three cities of Mumbai for three Days, Delhi and Bangalore for five Days."

Nokia Growth Partners to invest $150 mn, open offices in India, China

MUMBAI: Mobile giant Nokia has set aside funds of $150 million to open offices of its venture division Nokia Growth Partners in China and India. The division launched in 2004 with $100 million, and the company says it is interested in companies involved with mobile applications, location-based services (LBS), mobile advertising and music and entertainment - a broad spectrum that covers most of the areas attracting attention in mobile technology and the mobile web.

Misty to air Radio Netherlands content

MUMBAI: Netherlands' public broadcaster Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW), has entered into partnership with Radio Misty 94.3FM, the North Bengal and Sikkim FM station that will air a variety of RNW music programmes ranging from European pop charts to classical, jazz and world music as also RNW radio books. After a long-term presence in India with short wave and satellite radio broadcasts, RNW has now begun to expand its activities in India.
