Rob Stevenson appointed president, Virgin US

MUMBAI: EMI Music has appointed Rob Stevenson at a top creative post, to head its Virgin imprint in the US. Stevenson will report to Nick Gatfield, the new A&R president of North America, UK and Ireland, and is scheduled to start his position by 15 August, says a company release. Ron Stevenson was former top evaluator of rock talent at Universal Music Group. As a former executive vice president of Universal Music, Stevenson signed and developed artists that have sold 26m albums worldwide, such as Fall Out Boy, The Killers, The Bravery, Sum 41, Lady Sovereign, Saliva, Thrice.

Indiabeat to launch six albums this year

MUMBAI: Indiabeat, a music label known for its Indo fusion music, is ready to launch six albums by this year end. These albums are in various stages of production and will be launched between August and October 2008. By early September, the label plans to launch a new album titled 'Namaste'featuring the Karnatriix band featuring John Anthony on guitars, Ustad Faiyaz Ahamed Khan on vocals/sarangi and "Darbuka" Siva on percussion.

Composer duo Justin-Uday debut in Bollywood with 'Hijack'

Big FM fetches Rs 510 mn for Adlabs' Q1

MUMBAI: Adlabs' radio division Big FM contributed Rs 510 million for the first quarter of 2008-09 to the company's consolidated revenues of Rs 2.54 billion, a jump of 217 per cent. The current quarter includes the results of the radio operations for the first time, and hence may not be comparable with the earlier years. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in the depreciation and interest charge in this quarter, says an official release. The company has posted a profit before tax of Rs 60 million after providing for increased depreciation and interest on account of radio.

Will Monty Sharma hit the right note with 'Chamku'?

MUMBAI: The music of Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra starrer Chamku was launched on Monday in Mumbai amid much fanfare. Chamku is an action-crime flick made under the banner of Vijeta Films. The music for the film has been scored by Monty Sharma, and veteran lyricist Sameer has penned the lyrics. Chamku's director Kabeer Kaushik had earlier directed an Arshad Warsi starrer action flick Sehar in 2005, which failed to click with the audience. This is Kabeer's second film after Sehar.

Music industry mourns Ishmeet's death

MUMBAI: As news of his death reached the music industry late last night, many could not believe that the Voice of India 2007 winner Ishmeet Singh had met with a fatal accident. The 19 year old Ludhiana based singer died of drowning in a swimming pool in the Maldives while on his promotional tour to promote a music label with which he had signed a contract. Ishmeet was accompanied with another VoI and Jo jeeta wohi superstar contestant Sumitra Iyer for the Maldives event, that was to be held from 1 to 6 August.

ENIL Q1 net loss at Rs 79.99 million

MUMBAI: Entertainment Network (India) Limited (ENIL) has posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 79.99 million for the quarter ended 30 June, 2008 as against a loss of Rs 76.67 million in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. The company, which operates FM stations under the brand name Radio Mirchi, has seen a growth of 56.7 per cent in net revenue to Rs 1.08 billion as against Rs 691.72 million a year ago.
