Govt accepts Trai recommendations on satellite radio

MUMBAI: The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has accepted the final recommendations by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), with some modifications. The telecom regulator had recommended a draft policy that permits a satellite radio service provider to hold the permission of satellite radio channels. Among its various recommendations submitted by Trai, the ministry has also accepted the government's proposal in the draft policy on restrictions on news and advertisements in satellite radio service.

EMI extends relation with Ben Harper

MUMBAI: EMI Music Publishing has extended its contract with Grammy Award winning songwriter and performer Ben Harper. The new worldwide agreement will see the company represent both his existing catalogue of songs as well as future compositions. Harper first signed to EMI Music Publishing in August 1993. MTV fined for offensive language and material

MUMBAI: Media regulator Ofcom has fined MTV ?255,000 for broadcasting "highly offensive language and material" pre-watershed. These included the pre-9pm broadcast on MTV Networks Europe's UK channel TMF of an Aphex Twin video featuring offensive words including "motherfucker" and a daytime trailer for a Jodie Marsh reality show featuring the phrase "fucking wanker".

Yahoo restrained from using T-Series content: Delhi HC

MUMBAI: Music label T-Series obtained an interim injunction on 30 May against Yahoo Inc. and Yahoo India from the Delhi High Court. The Court issued a notice, in the interim, restraining Yahoo from streaming T-Series owned content on their portal Yahoo Video. Delhi High Court had issued a notice to Yahoo Inc. and its Indian subsidiary Yahoo Web Services (India) Pvt. Ltd on a suit filed by Super Cassettes Industries Limited (SCIL) owner of the "T-Series" for infringement of their copyright caused by unlicensed streaming of SCIL's copyright works on Yahoo's portal www.video.yahoo.com.

Rolling Stone and PluggedIn's enter into partnership

MUMBAI: PluggedIn has inked a deal with Rolling Stone, the former will be adding the latter's news and video content to its popular new entertainment website. PluggedIn will create a dedicated Rolling Stone channel, which will feature daily news and video content from Rolling Stone and exclusive content from the their vaults. In addition, Rolling Stone will be able to incorporate PluggedIn's proprietary high-definition player technology into its own video initiatives on sites like MySpace.
