Fever FM restructures core team

MUMBAI: Fever 104 is in the midst of some hierarchical changes. While the station has roped in Pralay Bakshi as Kolkata's new station head, Alok Singh has been switched to Mumbai as the station head. Bakshi was earlier the Programming head of Delhi Fever and Singh was the station head of Kolkata. In further developments, Vinay Manek would shift to Delhi as programming head, who was earlier a part of the central programming team.

History Rocks' second edition to air from 5 June

MUMBAI: History channel will be airing the second edition of its musical series 'History Rocks' starting 5 June in India. The new 17 part edition of 'History Rocks' promises to bring together great concerts, rare documentaries and interviews featuring 'Gods of Music' and offer a glimpse into the life of rock legends. The series will be broadcast Thursdays starting 9.00 pm with a repeat 11.00 pm on Saturdays.

Times of India group buys UK's Virgin Radio for ?53.2 million

MUMBAI: The Times of India group has unveiled its global ambitions, making its first acquisition outside the home market. TIML Golden Square, a wholly owned subsidiary of Times group, has bought Virgin Radio Holdings Ltd. and its subsidiaries in the UK for ?53.2 million ($105 million) from Scottish media company SMG Plc. With the deal, TIML will get the AM national licence and the FM London licence. TIML will manage the station along with Absolute Radio, the European group that already owns the music station Jack FM in Oxford.

Red FM steals the show at IRF awards

MUMBAI: The Indian Radio Forum 2008 culminated with the Indian Excellence in Radio Awards 2008. The atmosphere was charged with all radio stations hooting and cheering for their nominees. A total of 27 awards were given out this year. And in the end, it was Red FM that emerged the clear winner bagging a total of nine awards, followed by Radio Mirchi, which bagged four awards. This year also saw the introduction of four new categories- Excellence in New Media Initiative, Excellence in Communication. Best FM Brand, Best On-Ground/Activation by an FM Station.

MUMBAI: Radio industry must monetise by gearing up their brand activations and strengthening their local advertising, was the unanimous take by FM broadcasters and media buyers during the twin sessions on advertising at the India Radio Forum. Pointing out the growth of radio as a medium in the past two years, Friends FM Business Head Amritendu Roy said, "Radio as a medium is no longer a poor cousin or a medium to be underestimated. There has to be a paradigm shift in the way radio should be perceived and advertisers need to be educated."

Maa TV launches music channel Maa Music

MUMBAI: Maa Television Network today launched its Telugu music and lifestyle channel Maa Music. Apart from music, the channel will also have lifestyle and campus-based shows. The programming mix includes back to back music, live shows, interactive content and fillers. "Maa Music is much more than a music channel. It is also a lifestyle channel. It is contemporary, youth-focused, slick and entertaining," the company said in a statement.Maa Television Network owns and operates a Telugu general entertainment channel Maa TV which was launched in 2002.
