Nokia takes on Apple

MUMBAI: Competing against downloading sites like Apple's iTunes, mobile handset giant Nokia will let consumers download millions of songs directly onto their PCs and Macs or straight onto their phones via mobile airwaves. Nokia taking aim at striking the Apple's dominance in the digital music business has started its online music store operations in Australia allowing millions of audio downloads from local and overseas artistes.

Babul benefits from TV despite being booted out

MUMBAI: Babul Supriyo, the Kishore Kumar soundalike, who was one of the strong contenders on NDTV Imagine's Dhoom Macha De and succeeded in bringing tears to the eyes of judges and fellow contestants alike, is out of the fray. Apparently, all present on the sets were moved when Babul was struck out of the race, with rival Jaspinder even appealing to the judges to eliminate her instead of Babul. But the man himself is unfazed.

Bryan Adams resurfaces with '11'

MUMBAI: Canadian rock singer-songwriter, musician Bryan Adams is back with his new album titled '11'. The album released internationally on 17 March, arrives nearly four years after his last studio release, 2004's Room Service. It will be exclusively released in the US at Wal-Mart stores and Sam's Clubs on 13 May.The album produced by Adam's himself is his 11th album of all-original music and features 11 songs. It was recorded in hotel rooms and backstage at concert venues throughout continental Europe during the past two years.

MUMBAI: Columbia Records has signed US tween TV star Miranda Cosgrove to be a recording artist. Miranda Cosgrove stars in US kids broadcaster Nickelodeon's convergent show iCarly. This is a part of the global partnership between Nick and the Sony Music Label Group. First up for Cosgrove is the release of iCarly iPlaylist. The album will not only feature songs inspired by the popular live-action TEENick series, but also include tracks from multi-platinum popular artists, like Natasha Bedingfield and Avril Lavigne. The album will be available at retail and online on 10 June 2008.

Pyramid Saimira to invest Rs 4 billion in Chinese JV

MUMBAI: Chennai-based Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd (PSTL) will invest Rs 4 billion in the joint venture it has floated with China Society of Music Research Board (CSMRB), a unit of the Chinese ministry of culture. The JV company, Jiangsu Pyramid Longzhe Group, will create and operate theatres and distribute films, and engage in other entertainment, arts and cultural activities in China."We are looking to invest close to Rs 4 billion in the Jiangsu Pyramid Longzhe Group in the first year of operations itself," said PSTL MD PS Saminathan.
