Veteran tabla player Chandrakant Kamat bids adieu

MUMBAI: Veteran tabla player Pandit Chandrakant Shantaram Kamat passed away following heart failure at his Pune residence on 28 June 2010  He was 76. According to reports, Kamat returned from his routine morning walk sessions after which he suffered a heart attack   Born on 26 November 1933 at Dhulia, Kamat would often travel with his singer-actor father Shantaram Kamat and act for Sangeet Natak companies. Lata Mangeshkar sings after a long gap

MUMBAI: Lata Mangeshkar's divine voice was last heard in Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail - the music for which was composed by Shamir Tondon. That was a year ago. Now the most sought after singer has agreed to sing for a commercial track in Sunjay Sharma's Dunno Y.. Na Jaane Kyun. And going by the film's name, one assumes it would be something 'hip.' Mangeshkar is believed to have taken a self imposed break from commercial film songs, so it's certainly special when she agrees to sing.

92.7 Big FM Kanpur completes three years

MUMBAI: It was the third anniversary of the Kanpur station of 92.7 Big FM - which has its presence in 45 cities across India. MTV to air youth movies every Saturday

MUMBAI: MTV is launching its youth movies section from 3 July. The Viacom18 channel, which has shed its music  quotient and positioned itself as a youth entertainment  channel, will be airing three movies every Saturday starting 7 pm. The channel has partnered with Cornetto and named the segment MTVplex presents Cornetto Luv Reels. The short films will be presented in collaboration with two production houses - Red Chillies Idiot Box and Milestone Movies, MTV said in a release.

HP snaps music service Melodeo for up to $35M

MUMBAI: Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has acquired Melodeo, the parent company of the nuTsie music streaming service for a reported amount of $30 million to $35 million. The company confirmed acquiring the seven year old Seattle media firm which provides cloud-based music delivery systems for mobile devices.
