India to debut at Karaoke World Championships 2011

EMI inks deal with MXP4 social games on Facebook

MUMBAI: EMI has signed an agreement with MXP4 to integrate its vast catalogue into Bopler Games social music gaming app for facebook. For the first time any major music company has licensed its catalogue for sale within social games on facebook on this scale, and the deal demonstrates how the music industry can benefit from the growth of social gaming revenues which are projected to hit $5 billion by 2015.

Canadian AM radio station declines, FM mounts: CRTC

MUMBAI: Canadian AM radio stations have decreased from 177 in 2006 to 141 in 2010 but the revenues remained stable, whereas the FM stations reported higher revenues and profits on the strength of improved local and national advertising sales, according to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) report. CRTC released statistical and financial information on the 654 commercial radio stations operating in Canada for the broadcast year ending 31 August, 2010.

Prasar Bharati staff protest against outsourcing in DD, AIR

NEW DELHI: Employees of Prasar Bharati held a protest meeting to protest the decision of the Board to what they term outsourcing of the direct-to-home platform DD Direct Plus, outside broadcast of cricket on Doordarshan and All India Radio, and procurement and projects under the strategy for New Year. The National Federation of Akashvani and Doordarshan Employees (NFADE) chairman Anilkumar S told indiantelevision.com that if employees remained silent, both All India Radio and Doordarshan would be sold out to private agencies.

BBC World Service audience drops after grant cuts

MUMBAI: BBC World Service audiences have fallen 14 million in the past year, largely as a result of service closures and platform changes due to cuts to central Government grants. The overall audience estimate for the year is 166 million, down from 180 million last year. The World Service, currently funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, had its budget cut in the Government's Spending Review and in January announced that five language services would close along with significant platform changes to other services.
