Dolby's TrueHD 5.1 audio technology in online music distribution service

MUMBAI: Dolby Laboratories  recently announced that e-onkyo music distribution service managed by Onkyo Entertainment Technology Corporation, will be the first online music service to feature Dolby TrueHD 5.1-channel surround sound. The service will be launched on 30 May in Japan. The service supported by Onkyo A/V receivers and TX-NR717 will enable users to download music from over 100 albums. The music service boasts of providing consumers with high-quality audio and reduce download time and file sizes.

RAM releases nine cities listenership data

MUMBAI: Radio Audience Measurement (RAM), launched by TAM Media Research in 2007 for the radio Industry, has released the second round of '9 Indian Cities Listenership Sweeps' data. Ahmedabad, Chennai and Hyderabad have emerged as the growth markets for the industry. The Southern metros have seen more than 30 per cent growth in listening thresholds while Ahmedabad has witnessed 15 per cent growth. Pune, Kanpur, Indore and Nagpur have remained almost at the same levels as the previous round.

Copyright Bill cleared after differences on statutory licensing ironed out

NEW DELHI: The controversial Copyright Amendment Bill which had been deferred earlier because of differences between the Information and Broadcasting and Human Resource Development Ministries has finally been cleared by the Union Cabinet. It is understood that the two Ministries in their ‘fine tuning’ exercise have agreed to restore the provision of statutory licensing as proposed earlier in 2010.

Radio City back with GPL Season II

MUMBAI: Radio City is back with the second season of Gully Premier League (GPL). The month long activity with series of matches will be played across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur,  Nagpur, Surat,  Baroda, Vizag and Coimbatore. The tournament invites local cricket teams to play against each other for the GPL trophy and a cash prize up to Rs 1 lakh. More than 14,000 teams have registered for the tournament.  The entire event is executed in four phases – qualifiers, quarter finals, semi finals and finale.

Stevie Wonder to receive 'Icon Award' at 2012 BMA

MUMBAI: The legendary singer, songwriter and producer Stevie Wonder will be honoured with the ‘Icon Award’ at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. The live ceremony is scheduled to be held on 20 May at MGM Grand Arena. Wonder started his career at the age of 17 with his song ‘Fingertips (Pt. 2)’. He has delivered 32 number one singles and several classic albums including Songs in the Key of Life, Talking Book and Music of My Mind.
