Sony Music enters Telugu film music market

MUMBAI: After testing the waters with Tamil film music, Sony Music (Sony BMG earlier)  has ventured into the Telugu film music market, with the acquisition of Neenu Meeku Telusa. Sony recently acquired the music rights of Tamil movie Dasavatharam. Reports say the company has set aside a budget of Rs 5,00,000 to promote the music of  Neenu Meeku Telusa, which is being made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Sony has acquired the rights to both versions, and is poised to take on at least 10 more projects, it is learnt.

Mischief opts out of Virgin Radio

Mischief, the PR agency that had been brought in to handle a high profile re-launch of Virgin Radio in the UK, in the next few weeks has walked out of the project. According to reports in the PR Week, Mischief MD Mitchell Kaye says, "I took the decision to walk away from this opportunity because of a disagreement over strategic and creative direction." An announcement on the new brand of Virgin is likely any time. The Virgin Radio brand will disappear at the end of September, as per the deal reached when the brand was acquired by TIML earlier this year.

Anup Jalota launches label to promote new talent

MUMBAI: Veteran bhajan and ghazal exponent Anup Jalota is treading new ground, with the launch of his own label for amateur artistes. Christened Ë?shabd n sur', the label launched its first album Ë?Itna tu karna swami', a devotional debut album sung by Anshu Sharma. Ë?Itna tu karna' is a devotional album with eight tracks, with lyrics written by L D Sharma, a poet. Mohinder Sarin has composed six tracks of the album while, Pt Bholanath Mishra has composed the other two.

Niladri Kumar launches his first album 'Priority'

Music World to add over 30 stores by year end

MUMBAI: The RPG group plans to invest Rs 600 million over the next two years in its music retailing chain, Music world. As part of the plans, the company would be rolling out 30-40 stores by this year end. Music World president speciality retail business division K Dasaratharaman elaborates, "The amount spent will primarily depend on the size of the stores. It would cost around Rs five million to Rs 10 million per store depending on the location of the store and the floor space."

Radio One flags off 'College radio Championship'

MUMBAI: Radio One college radio Championship kicked off on Monday across Radio One stations in the country. This annual RJ hunt is conducted in colleges across metros in India, at the end of which, the winners, a team of two per city are selected to join Radio One's programming team on air. Radio City crowns 'Suron ka Sartaj' in Pune, Ahmedabad

MUMBAI: Radio City's hunt for Suron Ka Sartaj in Ahmedabad and Pune has ended with Aanal Vasavada from Ahmedabad and Sujeet Suman from Pune being crowned as winners on 14 and 15 August respectively. The grand finale in Pune was held in Mariplex mall by RJ Abhijeet of Whatte Fun Mornings and RJ Anjali of City Spice. The finale witnessed the five singing finalists, Jasraj, Sujeet, Sonia, Komal and Anshita performing live.

1worldspace announces Q2 2008 results

MUMBAI:1worldspace, the Maryland company formerly called Worldspace gained 2,283 net subscribers during the second quarter of 2008 in India, even with substantially reduced marketing spend in the region according to the recently released Q2 results. 1worldspace ended the period with 164,309 subscribers in India as compared with 162,026 at the end of the first quarter of 2008. Catering to audiences in more than 130 countries, the company ended the quarter with 171,657 subscribers worldwide, a slight increase of 187 from the prior quarter.

Mischief to help re-brand Virgin Radio

Mumbai: After a three way pitch, PR agency Mischief has acquired the account to re-brand the UK based Virgin radio now owned by TIML, a subsidiary of The Times Of India. The agency will put in ?15m in a PR campaign to build the new brand, according to reports. The agency has poached Lexis PR's Ben Dutton as joint creative director to work on the new account. Recent reports have suggested that the new Virgin brand will be unveiled by the end of August.
