AirCheck takes monitoring to Nagpur and Kanpur

MUMBAI: RCS India has expanded its radio monitoring services to include two new markets of Nagpur and Kanpur. RCS has recently started its services to include all commercial radio stations of the two cities, taking it to a total of 12 markets and 65 FM stations being monitored by RCS across India. Nagpur is the second media market in Maharashtra to be monitored, after Mumbai. Radio Mirchi, MY FM and SFM are on air and are being monitored in these cities by RCS.

Viplove Gupte quits My FM, joins Big FM

MUMBAI: My FM national programming head Viplove Gupte has moved on from Synergy Media, to join ADAG's Big FM as the National Programming Director. Prior to My FM, which he joined in September 2006, Gupte was the Group Head - Creative of Mirchi Movies, the Times Group subsidiary for film production.Says Gupte, "I was in Delhi for quite some time and wanted to move back to Mumbai. I am pretty excited about my new job and really looking forward to it." He has already joined Big FM and is busy with meetings. Gupte will be reporting to Big FM national programming head Manav Dhanda.

Qtrax to provide free downloads of UMG artistes

MUMBAI: Universal Music Group (UMG) has sealed a deal with file-sharing site Qtrax to allow free, legal downloads of the former's music. Qtrax had earlier announced the backing of all the major labels to distribute music free online, generating revenue with advertisements. However, New York-based Warner Music Group Corp denied Qtrax services to use its content. UMG and EMI Group PLC also declined any licensing deals with Qtrax.

Amazon, Sony, EMI bring out-of-print albums back to life

MUMBAI: Amazon.com announced that it will begin selling out-of-print albums on CD from major labels Sony BMG and EMI music on demand through its CreateSpace service. Disc on Demand have brought back coveted out-of-print albums titles such as 'Hatari Soundtrack' by Henry Mancini, 'Earthquake Weather' by Joe Strummer, Cake's 'Motorcade of Generosity', 'Telepathy' by Bill Stewart, Tony Williams' 'Foreign Intrigue' and 'Carryin' On' by Grant Green will be amongst the first batch brought back from the dead with CDs manufactured and shipped when customers place an order.
